Writing task

You have been studying and using the English language for a long time. How competent do you feel about your English at this point? Write an essay in which you assess your main strengths and weaknesses in the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. For each skill, think about which areas you need to improve and in which areas you feel self-confident.

Be sure to introduce your topic to the reader and then select the main points you intend to take up. Please be conscious of paragraphing and linking in your writing.

Remember to give your essay a title!

Length: about 400 words.

English speaking countries

ORAL PRESENTATION – English speaking country or city
Goal:
• To improve your knowledge of English-speaking countries and areas in the world
• To practice how to compile facts into your own personal, well-organized presentation
• To practice using your spoken English and become more confident talking in front of an audience
How:
Choose a country or city where English is spoken. Prepare a presentation of about 3-5 minutes. Work individually. If you want, use power-point or pictures to illustrate. Do not use a prepared longer text, you are allowed key words only (stödord). We want to hear you talk. If you need help, please ask about words, pronunciation and so on before it is time to present. Prepare and practice so you feel confident. Have fun with it!
Examples of things to talk about:
• Basic facts: population, government, export/import, climate, currency
• Major tourist attractions
• history?
• food?
• School system?
• culture: music, literature, famous people, behavior, spare time activities?
• Differences and similarities if you compare to Sweden?
• Dialect?

• New Zeeland
• Canada
• Ireland
• England
• Scotland
• USA
• Australia

A city is also a possible option.

Presentations

Speaking: Knowing me

First part:
In pairs
What is he/she good at?
What kind food does he/she like?
What does he/she do in his free time?
What does he/she want to be?
How many brothers and sisters has he/she got?

Second part:
In groups of three or four.
Take a card and ask the person on the right to answer it. Aim to speak for about 30 seconds. When the student has finished speaking, the other students should ask follow-up questions.

Writing
Write a short essay ( around 150 words) in answer to one of the questions on the cards.

Presentation

Who are you?

I would like to learn more about who you are and find out how much you really know your classmates.

Create a Powerpoint presentation about youself. The structure of the presentation is free but there are certain things you have to include:

-Who are you? Give a short description of yourself- remember you choose what you want to tell us about you.

-If you got to be someone else, dead or alive for one day who would you be?

-What superheroe Power would you like to have?

-What kind of Music do you like?

-What do you like to do on Sundays?

-If you had to recommend a film, which one would be and why?

-If you have to recommend a TV-series, which one would be?

-If you have to recommend a novel, which would that be?

Feel free to use plenty of pictures, music and even video clips in your presentation in order to make it even more interesting.

Presentation will take place: Wednesday, 12th of September and Monday, 17th of September
