Acts of Kindness

Vocabulary exercise ( words related to being kind)

Speaking

Important things to take into account

-Keep the conversation going:
Every conversation requires at least two people to function.
There are basically 3 ways to look on your conversation partner:
-As a listener:
-As an assistant: who can help you out if you struggle to find the rigth word or expression
-As a filler of awkward silences: nobody likes feeling umcomfortable. You share a responsability to fill the silence.

Take turns

Register: During the conversation that you are having tomorrow you are expected to show a higher level of formality, moving from informal to formal vocabulary and sentence structure.

Use synonyms: The following phrases are often repeated in verbal presentation. See how many synonyms you can think of:
I think

Asking for opinion

What’s your idea?
What are your thoughts on all of this?
How do you feel about that?
Do you have anything to say about this?
What do you think?
Do you agree?

Expressing agreement

I agree with you 100 percent.
I couldn’t agree with you more.
That’s so true.
That’s for sure.
You’re absolutely right.
Absolutely.
That’s exactly how I feel.
Exactly.
I’m afraid I agree with James.
I have to side with Dad on this one.
You have a point there.
I was just going to say that.

Expressing disagreement

I don’t think so.
I’m afraid I disagree.
I totally disagree.
I beg to differ.
I’d say the exact opposite.
No, I’m not so sure about that.

Interruptions

Can I add something here?
Is it okay if I jump in for a second?
Sorry to interrupt, but…
